Listen Now//Atlas Sound: Bedroom Databank Vol. 1, 2, 3, and 4

How the hell do you write a song?

Do you start with an intro? What do you write about? How do you know if it's good or not? It's hard enough to write out one line of a lyric never mind a whole compilation of songs.

Well, Bradford Cox, lead singer of Athens, Georgia band Deerhunter, writes songs like a New York City carriage horse shits. For Cox, its not a hard process; in fact, you can tell he thoroughly enjoys it. Fresh from releasing Halcyon Digest to critical acclaim, Cox has now switched gears, once again recording as his solo project Atlas Sound. Cox has released Bedroom Databank, four volumes of home made, bedroom recordings. Each volume has a surprising large number of songs on them, which makes you wonder how the hell so many ideas come out of one man's head. The songs range from the hooky to the obscure, with some songs sounding like b-sides to Halcyon Digest. Cox's covers of Kurt Vile's "Freak Train" and Bob Dylan and The Band's "Wheel's on Fire" have essentially been reconstructed brilliantly. Some songs get a bit boring with random beeps and bloops, but nothing anyone can't handle. The songs once again, introduce Cox as a master of his craft; an artist who clearly shows his care for what he's doing and how its done. And if Sony doesn't like it, they can shove it.
